Al Mawakeb was founded in 1979 as a private international school from
K-12 with the aim of providing the most comprehensive college preparatory
education to students of all nationalities. A unique trilingual program
in English, French, and Arabic, along with strong math and science
programs, enable graduates to pursue higher education worldwide.
Al Mawakeb is certified by the UAE Ministry of Education. Upon
graduating from grade twelve, students receive a high school diploma
and are also eligible to receive the UAE Secondary Leaving Certificate
(Thanawiya). Al Mawakeb is a SAT test center and TOFEL, SAT, PSAT
training are part of the school's program The medium of instruction
is English.
The student body represents 40 different nationalities, but the
majority of students are from various Arab countries. The teaching
and administrative staff comes from 20 different nations and most
hold degrees from American universities.
The Al Mawakeb School encourages participation in extra-curricular
activities by providing the following clubs: yearbook, school magazine,
computer club, drama club, scouts, art club, karate, piano, folklore
dance, volleyball, basketball, football, track and field.
In 1998, Al Mawakeb opened a second branch in Barsha, Dubai. The
second campus is also open for grades K-12 and offers the same educational
program as its sister school The school's facilities include: two
science labs, two computer labs, indoor gymnasium and auditorium,
library, activity rooms, assembly hall and stages, research rooms,
tennis courts and five large playgrounds. The school calendar runs
from September to June with one mid-year break.
An entrance exam is required for admission to Al Mawakeb School,
UAE.
