The Carey Baptist Grammar School
Carey Baptist Grammar School works towards the fulfillment of its
commitment to co-education and equality of opportunity by presenting
students with opportunities that allow them to develop their interpersonal
skills and confidence in a realistic social setting. Extension and
enrichment programmes for gifted students aim to foster creativity
and motivation, and a broadly based programme of academic, sporting
and co-curricular activities emphasizes the development of individual
strengths and skills. Performing and visual arts are an important
part of the programme at Carey and there are many performance and
exhibition opportunities.
Facilities at Carey Baptist Grammar School are excellent on the
schools four sites. Coaching and competition in 22 sports
is centered on the sporting complex at Bulleen, which comprises
swimming and diving pools, athletics track, gymnasium, weight training
and ball courts. Toonallook, the school's outdoor education campus
in Gippsland, provides introductory experiences to a structured
programme that forms part of the core curriculum until Year 10.
The Senior School at Carey Baptist Grammar School provides a pre-tertiary
environment in which students are encouraged to become self-directed
learners. A canteen and large, covered courtyard provide recreation
and informal study space, and a three-storey building completed
in 2002 provides Senior School students with specialist science
facilities, a lecture theatre, art and graphics studios, and media
studios with editing suites.
The International Baccalaureate was introduced at Carey Baptist
Grammar School in 1998 and is a highly regarded alternative to the
Victorian Certificate of Education. The broad range of subjects
offered in the Senior School is enhanced by practical experiences
and visiting speakers, and makes use of the latest educational technology
and the schools extensive libraries. Computers are integrated
across the curriculum and all students from Year 7 to Year 10 have
their own laptop computer. Wireless technology was introduced in
2003.
The Donvale campus at Carey Baptist Grammar School caters for children
from 3-year-old kindergarten to Year 6, and the Kew campus for 3-year-old
kindergarten to Year 12 students. Before and after school care is
provided.
