*Location: Western Shanghai near many housing compounds and 10 minutes from the Hong Qiao Airport
*History: Opened September 2006 to grades Nursery - Grade 3, will expand to Grade 13 in 2008.  First building completed August 2006, entire campus (16 acres) scheduled for completion in December 2007.
*Ownership: Founded by a consortium of independent American and Chinese investors and lead by an Advisory Board of experienced educators from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education.
 
 
CURRICULUM
Following the IB Primary Years Program (PYP)for our opening grades (Nursery to grade 3)with the intent of becoming an IB world school offering all 3 programs: PYP (ages 3-11), MYP (Middle Years Program) (ages 12-16), and Diploma program (last two years of secondary school).
 
Chinese (Mandarin) is taught daily by a qualified Chinese teacher with specialist classes (music, PE, and art) taught in both English and Chinese.  Chinese cultural activities such as martial arts, Chinese painting, and Chinese calligraphy are offered in our activities program.
 
STAFF
Our teachers are fully-qualified and experienced, ranging from 5 years to 23 years of experience.  Over 70% of our teaching staff, both Western and Chinese, have masters degrees.  Our western teachers are from Australia, the United States, Canada, and the UK, while our Chinese teachers are from all over the country.
 
FACILITIES
Designed by a German architecture firm (Weimar architects), the 16-acre campus includes the kindergarten building, primary school, middle school, high school, theatre, library, cafeteria, art labs, 3 gymnasiums, indoor swimming pool, track with soccer field, and dormitory buildings.
 
SCHOOL YEAR AND SCHOOL DAY
Academic year starts the first week of September and ends the last week of June.  WISS honors both western and Chinese holidays.
 
EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
At WISS, we offer students a rigorous international academic program with a focus on Chinese language and culture.  As a small community, (maximum class size: 18 for Primary School) we work closely with parents and families to address the needs of all our children.
