Nanjing International School
Nanjing International School, established in 1990, is a non-profit international school providing the International Baccalaureate PYP, MYP, and Diploma programmes (Primary, Secondary and High School from Pre-k to Grade 12). The school is internationally accredited by worldwide organisations (NEASC, CIS, IBO) and by the Chinese Authorities (NCCT).
Our philosophy: Focus on individuals
Under IBO guidance which aims to create responsible citizens of the world, we believe education should equip our students with strong academic knowledge and should develop their essential transferable learning skills. This turns their international mobility to their advantage.
The IBO s partnership with inter-governmental organisations such as the United Nations, UNESCO, and the Council of Europe guarantees NIS s legitimacy in providing a strong and highly valued international education system.
Teaching environment
Our 432 students are taught in English by a team of 61 Teaching Staff. Using the International Baccalaureate framework, NIS provides a complete curriculum which is benchmarked against state curriculum standards in Australia, England and the USA.
Our non-profit status allows us to provide a very generous student-teacher ratio (1:8), to recruit and further train highly-qualified and internationally experienced teachers. A fully integrated English programme enables non-native speakers to reach academic English language proficiency. In line with our philosophy and IBO guidance, Community Service is a requirement for all students in Grade 6 and above. The Chinese language is taught in every grade at all levels of proficiency.
The International Baccalaureate is increasingly the qualification of choice at universities worldwide.
Learning environment
Our non-profit status has allowed us to offer our students a new purpose-built campus providing them with the best possible environment in which to learn and enjoy school life. NIS has room for two classes per year to a school maximum of 600 students. Its design combines traditional Chinese features with modern educational facilities. These include: classrooms designed for up to 20 students, a fully stocked library and media centre, Design and Technology workshop, Art room, Music and Drama suite, cafeteria/auditorium, all-weather court, full size tartan running track, Astroturf soccer pitch, skating circuit, skateboard park, early years play area, outdoor amphitheatre; landscaped Chinese gardens, four science laboratories, full air-conditioning and heating, nurse s room and 24 hour security.
The majority of Nanjing s expatriate families live in residential clusters between 5 to 20 minutes drive from our school.
Nanjing International School is a non-denominational, small and expanding
non-profit organization serving exclusively the expatriate community
of Nanjing, overseen by a volunteer Board elected annually by parents.
