The American International School in Cyprus (AISC) is an independent,
co-educational college preparatory school. The curriculum is designed
to enable students to meet college requirements consistent with
their interests and abilities. AISC offers a traditional American
program as well as the International Baccalaureate Diploma program.
AISC is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges
and Schools and is a member of the National Honor Society for Secondary
Schools. The school places up to 100% of graduates in universities
in the US and UK. AISC graduates have been accepted to universities
including: London School of Economics, University of Warwick, Yale
University, Stanford University, and Duke University. The school
administers and/or provides access to the following assessments:
PSAT, SAT, IB, ITBS, ERB Writing Assessment. Classes average 12
students per section which encourages close student-teacher and
student-student relationships. Seniors are required to complete
and present a major research project that clearly demonstrates their
abilities in reading, writing, research, critical thinking and problem
solving. The school’s library facility contains over 16,000 volumes
and periodicals. The latest Power Macintosh and IBM computers allow
students to use the computer as an everyday tool. A sophisticated
high-speed network connects the library, three computer labs, offices
and selected classrooms. Students in grades 6-12 have personal e-mail
accounts. The elementary program includes children in pre-school
through grade five. Most students begin studying French as a foreign
language in grade three. There is an ESL program provided for students
requiring intensive English instruction and a Learning Center for
students with mild learning disabilities. The extensive offerings
in the activities program include sports, music and arts. Service
Learning is a requirement for all students.
