The International School of Estonia (ISE) opened in September of 1995
with 22 students and has grown to approximately 100 students. It includes
a Preschool section (ages three and four), Reception, and grades 1
to 12. The school is operated as a non-profit foundation run by a
Board of Directors which is elected by the parent body. The school
is fully recognized by the government of the Republic of Estonia.
The ISE was recently authorized as an IB MYP school.
The comprehensive academic program at International School of Estonia
(ISE) is based on Anglo-American standards. The current curriculum
includes English, ESL, mathematics, science, social studies, computer
technology, art, music, foreign languages (French and German), Estonian,
library skills, intensive Estonian (for Estonian passport holders)
and physical education. Upper level classes also take world history,
cultural history. The library is viewed as a significant learning
resource center, and currently holds 6,000 volumes.
The International School of Estonia (ISE) faculty is composed of
highly qualified and certified educators, some with advanced degrees
and experience from around the world. The school recognizes the
teaching of English as a Second Language as an integral part of
all teachers' responsibilities.
The International School of Estonia (ISE) moved, in summer 2000,
to a large building which provides a gymnasium, cafeteria, eighteen
station computer room, newly equipped laboratory, and is surrounded
by ample outdoor playing areas. All students have access to hot
lunches at a reasonable rate.
The student body at International School of Estonia (ISE) is drawn
primarily from Scandinavian, Western European, and North American
families who are in Estonia for business or diplomatic assignments.
Admission is open to all students of appropriate age, without regard
to race, nationality, religion, or first language, who could benefit
from the education offered, and for whom the school can provide
a suitable education.
International School of Estonia (ISE) is in session for 180 days
from late August to June. The school day extends from 08:45 to 15:15.
There is an optional after-school activity program.
