Garden International School
Garden International School is currently the largest private, co-educational,
international school in Malaysia offering a British-style curriculum
for students from Early Years to 'A' Level. The school was established
in 1951 to provide British-style education to the expatriate and
local community in Kuala Lumpur. Since then the school has undergone
a period of sustained development. It moved to a purpose built campus
in 1996 which has since been extended by the addition of a seven-storey
arts building. The school is situated on two sites, the main campus
in Kuala Lumpur and a small Primary school campus in Kuantan, on
the East coast of Malaysia. In total, the school has students from
over 58 nationalities. Teaching staff are mainly recruited from
the United Kingdom, Australia and from Malaysia itself. Facilities
on the main campus include over six hundred networked computers,
seven science laboratories, extensive Performing Arts facilities,
performance hall, visual arts studios, ten ICT suites, a sports
hall, an Astroturf court, 25-metre swimming pool and two cafeterias.
The Garden International School follows the guidelines of the National
Curriculum for England up to Year 9 and from then on follows a curriculum
that leads to Cambridge IGCSE examinations and Cambridge 'A' Level.
A wide range of subjects are available at 'A' level and students
move from these courses to enter universities worldwide. Impressive
academic results are achieved at all levels. In addition specialist
English as Additional Language provision is available to students
from 6 to 14 years of age. Provision for Special Educational Needs
is delivered by the schools Learning Support Unit. There is a very
extensive programme of extra-curricular activities that take place
at Garden International School every day after school. Entry to
the school is by interview at both Primary and Secondary level and
a placement assessment is carried out before admittance. Application
forms are available on request from the Admissions Department of
the Garden International School.
