Fundatia International British School of Bucharest was founded in
2000 by Mrs Simona Cohen and the school opened in September, 2000.
The purpose of the school is to provide a high quality, English medium,
international education for children of expatriate families and of
Romanian citizens.
The school provides a co-educational environment for children aged
5 to 18. The school offers a curriculum based on the English National
Curriculum (with an emphasis upon the strategies of Numeracy and
Literacy) but this is adapted to reflect both the international
nature of the student body and the traditions of the host nation.
The curriculum leads to IGCSE examinations in year 11. Romanian
is taught as a language and there is an extensive range of out of
school activities.
The teaching staff are all British nationals, educated and trained
in British universities. There is a balance of youth and experience.
The school is committed to keeping class sizes low - no more than
18 in each class - and there are teacher assistants for each class.
The school is situated in the centre of Bucharest and is housed
in purpose-built premises. There are two purpose-built buildings
- one for primary and one for secondary. The secondary building
contains a dedicated science lab, art room and computer room. There
are computers in all the primary classrooms. There is a play area
to the front of the school.
The academic year is 180 working days for students and the school
year starts in September. The school has an open admissions policy
and children are placed according to age and ability.
