International Greece Schools

This is the online directory with the main schools in Greece that offer an Education in English such as the international school of Larissa . The programmes vary from the International Baccalaureate (I.B.) programme, which includes PYP, MYP and Diploma to the British GCSE and GCE examination systems. All schools are required to satisfy the requirements of the Greek national system.

International Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate Diploma (Diethnes Apolytirio) is equal and equivalent to the Greek School-leaving Certificate (Apolytirio Eniaiou Lykeiou) (Law 2327, 31 July 1995).
According to the above-mentioned law and the Ministerial Decision no. B3/3925 (Greek Government Gazette B, 9 August 1998), all IB Diploma holders seeking a place in a Greek university must sit for the Greek School-leaving Certificate (Apolytirio Eniaiou Lykeiou) examination set by the Ministry of Education at the end of the last (3rd) Upper Secondary School. Places are offered to IB Diploma holders according to ranking based on the results of this examination. The examination is held in the second half of June. Consequently IB Diploma holders can only sit the examination one year after their graduation.

IB Diplomas issued by schools outside Greece must be legalised by the Greek Consulate in Geneva, officially translated into Greek by the same or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens.

The IB Diploma is recognised as equal to the Greek School-leaving Certificate (Apolytirio Eniaiou Lykeiou) for other purposes such as appointment to a civil service post, but for non-Greek nationals there may be other restrictions such as the nationality of the holder, knowledge of the language etc. Applications for such recognition should be addressed to the Ministry of Education.
