The American International School of Zagreb is a private, coeducational
day school which offers an educational program from Junior-Kindergarten
through grade 12 for the students of the American and international
community residing in Zagreb. The school is supported by the Office
of Overseas Schools of the US Department of State. It is governed
by a five-member School Board made up of three representatives appointed
by the American Ambassador and two members elected by the Parent
Teacher Association.
The curriculum at American International School of Zagreb reflects
the best practices in both American and international education.
Instruction is in English. Some degree of proficiency in English
is desirable for admission to all levels above grade 5. There is
a strong ESL program in the school. French and German are offered
as foreign languages and native languages. The faculty consists
of qualified, certified teachers, many of whom have Master's Degrees.
All classroom teachers and core subject teachers are native English
speakers. The regular class day at American International School
of Zagreb extends from 08:00 to 15:00. Extra-curricular activities
are offered and include sports, computers, games, enrichment, homework
club, cooking, arts and languages. All students from grade 2 participate
in overnight enrichment trips. The school year has 180 days of instruction.
The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges
and Schools, is authorized by the IBO, and is a member of ECIS/CIS
and CEESA (Central and Eastern European Schools Association).
The American International School of Zagreb is located in a quiet
area of Zagreb in the Boys' Seminary complex. The American International
School of Zagreb's facility was completely renovated in 2000. The
school has two computer labs, a library & resource center, art
studio, multi-purpose room, science lab, cafeteria and outdoor playing
fields. The school rents two gymnasia for physical education and
sports. Local recreation facilities are also used for ice skating,
skiing and swimming.
