TED (Turkish Educational Association) Ankara College was founded in
the early 1930s on the initiative of Mustafa Kemal Atatark, the founder
of the modern Republic of Turkey. The aim then, as now, was to provide
an English medium school for Turkish students which would provide
an academic program to prepare them for university study in the professions
at institutions of higher learning within Turkey and abroad.
The TED Ankara College Foundation school is a private co-educational
institution consisting of kindergarten, primary, upper primary and
high school sections. The school is administered by a foundation
reflecting every element of Turkish society. As the premier school
in the capital, TED Ankara College and its graduates have traditionally
had a significant impact upon Turkish governmental, professional
and business communities. Generations of TED Ankara College graduates
have influenced Turkish national life.
The curriculum at TED Ankara College Foundation is prescribed by
the Turkish Ministry of education and encompasses a university preparatory
program taught in English with the exception of social science,
Turkish language and literature and religion. At the high school,
the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme has been
implemented since 1999. There are elective opportunities for students
such as French, German, computers and the humanities. An extensive
extra-curricular program is provided for students at all levels
at TED Ankara College Foundation including athletics, international
simulations, music, art, science, folk dance, drama and interest
groups and clubs. The TED Ankara College basketball teams are perennial
champions and the annual musical theatre is popular.
With the intention of providing a better educational environment
which would make life and learning more enjoyable for its students
and staff, in academic year 2004-2005, with all its units the TED
Ankara College Foundation school will be moving to the new campus
situated on the outskirts of Ankara.
