School Summary
:
National, IB, curricula.
350 students - 2-17 yrs.

The International School of Uganda is a non-sectarian, co-educational day school. A balanced programme, which blends British and American educational objectives, serves students from the international community. Qualified teachers cater for English as a Second Language and special learning needs. The school is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools and by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges.

The pre-primary programme (3 and 4 years) fosters the child's social, physical and emotional development while building initial intellectual skills in areas of language and mathematics. The teachers follow supportive, child-centred methods within a well-equipped and age appropriate environment.

The elementary programme continues a supportive child-centred approach. A homeroom teacher covers the core subjects. There are speciality teachers for computer, art, music, physical education, Ugandan studies and French. The curriculum encourages active enquiry as well as full development of basic skills.

Students in grades 6-10 move between different subject teachers and follow the Middle Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate Organization, which the school looks for full implementation in one years' time. Subjects include language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, physical education, computer, French, art, music, life skills, Ugandan studies and an advisory programme.

The high school prepares students for successful entry to universities around the world. During their first two years, students' grades earn credit towards the ISU diploma. In their last two years, students continue work towards the ISU diploma following the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum and may elect to sit for the IB diploma or for IB certificates. In addition to courses taught in middle school, high school offers chemistry, biology, physics, history, geography, ecology and society, and German.

ISU has a library of 11,000 volumes, science laboratories, two information technology laboratories with a full class set of IBM compatible computers and facilities for sports, all located at a spacious new campus. A varied programme provides for extra curricular activities.
