The United Nations International School of Hanoi is an English language school for children of the international community aged from 3 to 18, and provides education for age 3 through grade 12. The school is housed on two adjacent campuses, each with its own playground and specialist facilities: 2B-C Van Phuc Campus: Lower Primary (children aged from 3-10), and 2D Van Phuc Campus: Middle and High School (children from 11-18).


There are currently 35 nationalities represented among the children at the United Nations International School of Hanoi, and the teaching staff of 58 full- and part-time represent 13 different nationalities and offers instruction in English language and literature, mathematics, science, social studies, computer, French, Swedish and Vietnamese language/culture, as well as art, music and physical education. The school is an authorized IBO school and offers the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate Organisation (age 3 to grade 5), the Middle Years Programme of the IBO (grades 6-10) and the IB Diploma and Certificate Programmes (grades 11-12)

Children are encouraged to achieve according to their own skills and potential ability, and there is a close one-to-one working relationship between the student and the teacher to facilitate this; also, classes are limited to 18 in elementary and 22 in the middle and high schools. The programme of studies is international in its focus and draws on materials from Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and the US.

The facilities at United Nations International School of Hanoi include a growing library (currently 15,000 volumes) and specialist rooms for art and music as well as computer and science laboratories. There are playing areas, and the school has the use of a gymnasium, swimming pools and local tennis courts to supplement the PE programme. After-school activities include programmes in sports, creative activities, languages and outdoor clubs.

The United Nations International School of Hanoi school day is from 08:15 to 15:00, Monday to Friday, the academic year running from the early September to the second week of June. Construction began on a new UNIS campus in July 2002 with occupancy of the new facility in September 2004.
