Lucaya International School
Lucaya International School is a non-profit independent organization
set up to provide high quality education to the local and international
communities of the island of Grand Bahama. The school is governed
by an eight-member Board of Directors elected from the members of
the Association. It is open to all students regardless of nationality,
race or creed.
Lucaya International School offers an international style of education
incorporating the best aspects of European, Australasian and American
practices. The academic program is designed to prepare students
for the IB Diploma and SAT and a broad range of subjects in the
Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE). The
school endeavours to tailor the curriculum to prepare the children
for the educational systems to which they may later move. The faculty
is fully qualified and many have taught overseas and hold advanced
degrees.
The Lucaya International School calendar runs from September through
June. There is a strong extra-curricular and fine arts program available
to all students through the school.
Lucaya International School occupies a brand new purpose-designed
building on a 12-acre site situated in a quiet rural setting within
easy reach of the main residential areas of the island. There is
ample classroom space, a library, computer laboratory, auditorium
and specialist rooms for science, music, art/craft and academic
support. Sporting facilities will include a swimming pool, athletics
track, sports field and gymnasium.
The Lucaya International School offers places to students who would
benefit from an academically demanding English language education.
Entry is based on previous school reports together with screening,
testing and/or interview, depending on age.
The Lucaya International School maintains a friendly, family atmosphere
for young people, within which there is a purposeful approach to
promote school policies and shared expectations of high standards
of academic achievement and personal values.
