Lyford Cay School
The Lyford Cay School serves as a community resource for international
and Bahamian families. Lyford Cay School offers a high standard
Nursery through High School education. Through a multi-cultural
environment that promotes understanding amongst diverse nationalities,
students are provided with the opportunities and resources to become
cross-cultural learners and responsible citizens. Lyford Cay School
is an independent, non-denominational, day school. The school is
a non-profit-making entity governed by a Board of Directors.
The philosophy of the Lyford Cay School is that '... each student
will experience individual success in a secure and challenging learning
environment'; to this end a broad curriculum has been developed
to serve the many needs of the student population.
The Lyford Cay School has an internationally mixed and experienced
teaching staff, all of whom are trained teachers with degrees and/or
teaching certificates.
The curriculum at Lyford Cay School is challenging. All students
of Grade 1 and up take annual standardized tests. The Middle School
students follow the International Baccalaureate Program. Students
in the High School follow the International Baccalaureate Diploma
Program.
The Lyford Cay School is a purpose-built facility, situated in
a beautiful part of the island of New Providence. There are 22 classrooms,
a library/media center, a music and an art studio, a computer lab
and a science laboratory. Each classroom is equipped with multi-media
computers and full on-line service to the Internet. Sports facilities
include a large playing field accommodating a soccer pitch, softball
diamond, basketball court and running track. The Aquatics program
features sailing and scuba diving.
A partial scholarship program, which supports Bahamian students,
is in place.
The After Lyford Cay School Program includes activities such as
soccer, softball, basketball, ballet, a steel drum band, a computer
club, a science club, golf, swimming etc.
