The British School Quito
The British School Quito was founded in 1995 under the auspices
of the British Embassy and the British Council. The Foundation is
chaired by HM Ambassador and the board includes prominent Ecuadorian
and British professionals. Sixty percent of the student body is
Ecuadorian. The international contingent includes students from
Europe (including UK), Canada and USA. The atmosphere is relaxed
and friendly, with considerable emphasis on values, courtesy and
industry
Most class and subject teachers are qualified in the UK. There
is normally a maximum class size of 20. The programme follows the
English National Curriculum, leading to the IB Diploma. All students
have the opportunity to become completely bilingual. The co-curricular
programme includes sports, music, theatre and community service.
Ecuador provides rich opportunities for fieldwork, visits and excursions.
BSQ follows the three-term pattern of the British school year, with
classes beginning in early September and concluding at the end of
June. The school offers a wide variety of extra curricular activities
including the International Youth Award (Duke of Edinburgh) Scheme.
BSQ is located in a pleasant Andean valley within easy reach of
central Quito. There are well-equipped science and computer laboratories.
Sports facilities include a large heated swimming pool, a junior
football pitch together with tennis, basketball and volleyball courts
Enrolment is based upon previous schooling record, testing in English
and interview.
