Colegio Inglés English College
Founded in 1970, Colegio Inglés offers a program of English-Spanish
bilingual education at the preschool, elementary and Middle School
levels. Its students range in age from three to 16 years. The school
is located in Garza García, Mexico, just outside Monterrey,
Mexicos third largest city, with a population of 1,111,000.
Since 1981 Colegio Inglés has been fully accredited by the
Mexican Secretary of Education. Each level of the school consistently
meets or exceeds the requirements for academic programs, faculty
qualifications and facilities established in Secretary of Education
guidelines. Spanish language arts, social studies, civics, music,
physical education and critical thinking skills are taught in Spanish.
At the same time, as part of its bilingual program, Colegio Inglés
provides an English immersion environment in other subject areas,
including English language arts, maths, science, technology skills,
current events and art. After-school sports and extra-curricular
clubs offer students extended opportunities for school-based activities.
The faculty at all levels represent diverse nationalities and includes
both native Spanish and native-English speakers. Although the majority
of its students are Mexican, Colegio Inglés also enro1ls
a number of students from other countries. Many of these childrens
families are associated with multi-national corporations that have
established their offices in Monterrey.
Only two hours by car from the Mexico-United States border, students
grow up with the experience of living in a bilingual/bicultural
community. Students parents have chosen to enroll their children
at Colegio Inglés in order that they become culturally and
linguistically prepared to seek and accept academic, professional
and cultural opportunities on a global scale. The school is committed
to offering its students an academic program that guides them toward
an understanding of and participation in issues of international
relevance.
