The Tashkent International School, Uzbekistan, was established in
September 1994. It is a non-profit independent organization which
is operated under the direction of a parent-elected Board of Trustees.
The American-based curriculum serves the English-speaking and international
communities in Tashkent.
The Tashkent International School encompasses Kindergarten through
12th grades. Instruction, in the English language, takes advantage
of small class sizes and the diverse educational backgrounds of
the students. Courses include English, mathematics, science, social
studies, physical education, computer, art and music. English as
a Second or Other Language is provided.
The teaching staff at the Tashkent International School are mainly
from the United States and hold university degrees and/or teaching
certificates.
The annual calendar extends from late August until June on a four-quarter
basis. There is a three-week holiday in winter and a one-week holiday
in spring.
The Tashkent International School is housed in a remodelled facility
located in Tashkent. It contains 19 classrooms, three offices, library,
auditorium and an MPR. There are computers for student use in every
classroom, plus a computer lab.
The school offers after-school programs involving dance, art, drama,
sports and music.
Admission to Tashkent International School is open to all children
who are within the age range and for whom the school can offer an
appropriate education. Conversational ability in English is required
at upper levels. The school aims to provide an educational environment
with a respect for all nationalities and cultures.
