The British School, Tehran, Iran
A joint initiative of the British and Dutch Embassies founded the
British School, Tehran in 2000. The campus is located in the northern
suburbs of Tehran in the grounds of the British Embassy Residence.
At present the school shares this campus and a number of facilities
with the German School.
The school is a registered charity in the United Kingdom and is
a non-profit making organization. Having been closely involved in
its foundation the above Embassies are represented on the Board
of Trustees, as is the parent body.
Opened primarily to serve the educational needs of the children,
between the ages of 3 and 12, of British and Dutch expatriates the
school accepts children of other nationalities subject to the availability
of places and a test of basic competency in English. The school
does not offer places to children, other than Dutch, who require
tuition in English as a Second Language.
All members of the experienced teaching staff are fully qualified
and undertake in-service training. From its foundation the school
has worked closely with a number of educational consultants and
is inspected on a regular basis. Although located on the premises
of the British School that predated the Iranian Revolution the school
has been modernized and is equipped with up-to-date resources. There
is a well-stocked school library, all pupils have access to computers
in classrooms and a in computer suite of twelve
networked units.
