A PROFILE OF THE SCHOOL
Orbital Education (UK) is pleased to announce the opening of the
English International School on Monday 4th September 2006. The English
International School, is an independent day school, owned and managed
by the Orbital Education (UK), for boys and girls from 3 - 18 years
of age. Initially, there will be classes for children from 3 to
14 years
The Curriculum and Educational Environment.
The curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum adapted
to meet the needs of the expatriate population. Essentially this
means that in addition to the core curriculum, there is the opportunity
for the pupils to study additional languages and to learn about
the Culture, History and Geography of Russia. Eventually pupils
will be prepared for the Cambridge University Schools International
General Certificate of Secondary Education and either the Cambridge
University Schools Advanced Level Examinations or the International
Baccalaureate, leading to British and International university entrance
.
The School offers a specialist EAL programme, both for beginners
and intermediate
stage pupils, which allows these pupils to integrate swiftly into
the mainstream classes. In the current buildings pupils are taught
in classes with a maximum of 18 pupils. There are 180 pupil days
per year, divided into three terms of approximately 12 weeks in
length.
The school day begins at 8.30 am and lessons finish at 3.50pm. There
will be an
Extended Enriched Day programme from 2.15 pm - 3.50 pm for all pupils
in years 3 - 9.
The school is accommodated in a completely refurbished school designed
by western architects and having all the design features of a modern
British school. It is situated within a quality residential area
in with easy access to the centre of Moscow. This residential development
provides a secure environment and has good quality air. The educational
environment and the educational equipment and resources are of the
highest quality.
There is additional space for sports facilities on site.
There are specialist Science and Information Technology laboratories
as well as specialist Art and Music facilities. There are dining
facilities and an Assembly Hall.
A special feature of the programme is the high profile given to
Information Technology within the curriculum both in a teaching
situation and within the Library and Resources Centre. There are
safe and spacious areas for the pupils to play at break and at lunchtime.
In short it is an ideal school environment for your children.
Teaching Staff and Teaching Quality
The School employs only qualified teaching staff with British or
equivalent professional teaching qualifications. Most already have
successful teaching experience in other international schools and
are aware of, and sympathetic to, the needs of expatriate children.
The teachers are supported by a highly qualified and experienced
Headmaster
and by a team of Teacher Assistants and other ancillary staff. It
is Orbital Education's
policy to invest strongly in the quality of the teaching staff and
to ensure that the quality of education is of the highest standard.
To this end the Orbital Education
Development Officer, who has lead responsibility for the School,
is actively involved in
the management of the school. The Headmaster is directly responsible
to the Education Development Officer who in turn regularly reports
to the Directors. Schools within Orbital Education benefit form
the financial strength of the UK company, which is particularly
important for the future development of the school. Please note
that there is no Capital Levy charged over and above the tuition
fees.
Parental Involvement.
The English International School welcomes parental involvement in
the education of the pupils. Education is a partnership between
the parents and the teachers. The teachers are required to report
regularly to the parents about their child's performance - both
orally and in written reports. There is also opportunity for parents
to meet with the teachers to discuss academic and social matters.
The school expects the highest academic and social standards from
its pupils. Accordingly there is a code of behaviour and disciplinary
procedures to support it. Homework is regular and has high importance.
There is a school uniform policy.
Parents are also very welcome at social events organised by the
School.
