International School, Manila is a private, non-profit, non-sectarian
day school for boys and girls in Pre-K to 12. It is governed by a
ten-member Board of Trustees elected from and by the parents of enrolled
students. The curriculum is primarily US college-preparatory and includes
AP courses and courses leading to an IB Diploma. Special offerings
include English-as-a-Second Language, Optimal Learning Program for
Special Needs and Talented, K-12 computer literacy, and Chinese, Filipino,
French, Japanese, Korean and Spanish foreign languages.
More than seventy per cent of the faculty are expatriates, mainly
from the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand; the remaining professional
staff are Filipino citizens.
The student body at International School, Manila is an international
mixture: twenty three per cent are North Americans, twenty per cent
are Filipinos, with the other students representing fifty five countries
around the world. Some sixty per cent of the students have an average
length of stay of two to four years. Ninety-eight percent of the
graduates go on to colleges and universities, mostly in North America.
The International School, Manila school year starts in mid-August
and ends in early June, with a three-week Christmas vacation and
a one-week spring break. Daily classes run from 07:30 to 14:15.
The extracurricular program includes interscholastic competition
in sports and in the intellectual and artistic fields, as well as
a full range of special-interest activities.
In the International School, Manila school year 20002/03, IS Manila
celebrated the opening of its new campus in Fort Bonifacio in the
district of Taguig. Facilities in the seven-hectare campus include:
three gymnasia , three swimming pools, three playing fields, a canteen,
a multi-level media center containing a total of 80,000 print and
non-print resources, a 350-seat capacity Little Theater and an 880-seat
fully-equipped Fine and Performing Arts Theater. All rooms, including
the two hundred classrooms, are air-conditioned.
