Presently located on the right bank of the Dnipro River near the city
centre, The Pechersk School International, a World IB School, offering
the International Baccalaureate Programme, is part of a larger, global
community of international schools. The growing expatriate international
community in Kyiv has created a need for quality education. This multicultural
group includes diplomats and business people who are working in Kyiv
on behalf of embassies and large international companies.
The Pechersk School was started in 1995 by a group of parents (mainly
diplomats and business people) and is a non-profit school. The school
opened with 47 students from grades Pre-school through grade 12
and now enrols over 165 students. There are outdoor play areas that
have been improved through efforts by the PTA. The full-time, well-qualified
staff includes teachers from Canada, England, Guatemala, Russia,
South Africa, Ukraine, the United States and Wales. The language
of instruction is English.
The Pechersk School is a fully accredited World IB school offering
all three programmes; the Primary Years Programme (Early Childhood
through grade 5), The Middle Years Programme (grades 6 through 10)
and the Diploma Programme (grades 11 and 12). The IB Diploma has
been accepted by more than 600 universities in over 100 countries.
For US and Canadian students, the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
is offered. Students are also prepared for Tests of English as a
Foreign Language (TOEFL). The IB programme is compatible with the
English National Curriculum.
In December 2002 The Pechersk School became fully accredited by
the Council of International Schools (CIS) and The New England Association
of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). In September 2003 PSI moved to
a new, purpose-built site with over 2,500 square metres of classroom
on a one-hectare plot of land located ten minutes from the centre
of Kiev.
