Ecole Bilingue, The French-American International School of Boston,
was founded in 1962, for English and French speaking families who
sought a combined French and American educational program for their
children. Currently it serves 461 day students on two campuses. The
school is accredited by the French Ministry of Education and CIS and
is a member of NEASC and CIS/ECIS.
The Ecole Bilingue, The French-American International School of
Boston day is structured to integrate the official French Ministry
of Education program and an American independent school program.
Specialists' programs are presented in either language. In small
classes students participate in a dynamic learning environment which
enables them to develop both solid conceptual understanding and
strong implementation skills. Members of the faculty have excellent
academic credentials in their selected areas of teaching.
In the Maternelle division, which includes pre-school and kindergarten,
the French immersion program follows the official French pre-school
curriculum. Students have an hour of English instruction each day
in Pre-Kindergarten and Mid-Kindergarten, up to eight hours a week
in Kindergarten depending on the native language, with a full morning
of English once a week.
Grades 1 and 2 at Ecole Bilingue, The French-American International
School of Boston provide a transition from a primarily French Maternelle
program to grades 3, 4 and 5 where equal weight is given to the
French and English language programs. In Grades 1 and 2 science
is team taught by both the French and English language teachers
while in 3, 4 and 5 science is taught in English. In all grades
1-5 math is taught in French but is supplemented in the English
program. Students also participate in art, music, physical education
and, starting in grade 3, technology classes. ESL and FSL classes
are available to students if needed.
The Middle and Upper School program at Ecole Bilingue, The French-American
International School of Boston prepares students for academically
challenging colleges and universities in the United States and abroad.
In ninth grade, students take the French examination called Brevet
des Collèges. In eleventh and twelfth grades, they prepare
and take the French Baccalaureate which is highly recognized by
universities and colleges worldwide. All three sections of the French
Baccalaureate are offered (ES, L, S). A choice between German and
Spanish as a third language is introduced in sixth grade and Latin
is introduced in seventh grade.
