The United Nations International School (UNIS) is a K-12 non-profit,

1,486 students from 115 countries. UNIS has two campuses, an urban
one in Manhattan and a suburban one in Queens. Both are modern, spacious,
bright and sequestered. The total staff (including administrators
and support staff) numbers 256 and represents 71 countries. Teachers
are chosen for their experience and sensitivity to the development
and needs of children. Approximately half of the teachers have been
at UNIS more than ten years.
The The United Nations International School (UNIS) was founded
in 1947 to provide a rigorous program of study that not only fostered
global sensibility but that also provided for entry to universities
throughout the world. The academic program is K-12, culminating
in the two-year International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.
The United Nations International School (UNIS) accepts applications
from both the international and host country communities. Admission
is selective and based on the applicant's previous academic record,
admissions test results, and a writing sample. Among the academic
offerings are ESL, advanced French and Spanish, Arabic, Chinese,
German, Italian, Japanese and Russian. Music, art and computer technology
are integral to the programme of study. At the 10th grade level,
students may pursue a special talent or interest, whether it be
science, languages, the humanities, music or art. Tests administered
are the PSAT, SAT, IB and Oxbridge. The United Nations International
School (UNIS) graduates attend distinguished colleges and universities
around the world.
Extra-curricular activities include the Yearbook, newspaper, literary
magazines, and the annual United Nations International School/UN
Conference held in the General Assembly at the United Nations. The
students participate in concerts, recitals, music workshops and
in such games as chess, soccer, gymnastics, basketball, softball,
baseball, tennis, track and field, volleyball, swimming and cross-country
skiing. The school's after-school program ends at 18:00.
