TASIS The American School in England offers an American college-preparatory
curriculum. The school is six miles from Heathrow Airport and 18 miles
from central London. Its 35-acre campus provides facilities for both
boarders and day students.
The curriculum combines a full range of American elementary and
secondary school courses in English, history, mathematics and sciences,
as well as French, Spanish and Latin language courses at several
levels. ESL instruction and special international section courses
are provided for students whose native language is not English.
Elective courses offer more intensive and specialized study in the
fields of the humanities, social sciences, computer science, theatre,
and in the fine arts. There is a student-faculty ratio of 8:1 and
an average class of 13. TASIS The American School in England, provides
college counselling and is a College Board test center. Advanced
Placement courses in English, mathematics, science, history, and
languages are offered. The academic curriculum is complemented by
extra-curricular activities in art, music and drama. Sports include
soccer, rugby, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, golf,
tennis and cross-country. TASIS, The American School in England,
belongs to the International Schools Sports Tournament (ISST).
Seventy-percent of students attending TASIS The American School
in England, are the children of American expatriates. Forty-three
other nationalities are represented. Almost all students progress
to colleges and universities in the US, Canada or Europe.
Facilities on the campus include the main classroom, administration
and dormitory complex, four new classroom buildings, separate early
childhood, lower, and middle school (N, Pre-K-8) units, several
residence cottages, six science laboratories, a theatre, three libraries,
two computer facilities, an art/music complex, gymnasium, fitness
centre, tennis and basketball courts, and three playing fields.
The 400-seat theatre was opened in January 1993 and the Early Childhood
wing in 1996.
The TASIS The American School operates a rolling admissions policy.
Applications, supported by a full transcript and three teacher evaluations,
are considered in light of a student's academic and social acceptability
to the TASIS community. TASIS The American School in England, is
accredited by NEASC and CIS.
Summer school courses are available for academic credit, theatre,
and English as a Second Language.
