The Hellenic College was founded in 1980 by prominent members of the
Greek community in London. The Hellenic College of London provides
a first-class British education to GCSE standard, coupled with fluency
in the Greek language, and a thorough grounding in Greek culture,
history, literature and religion. Children from non-Greek-speaking
families are also welcome and they are able to follow an alternative
modern foreign language, I.e. Spanish, Italian, Russian, etc. The
principal medium of instruction is English, with English as a foreign
language tuition available as required.
The Hellenic College of London offers an integrated academic programme
based on the UK national curriculum throughout the nursery, primary
and secondary departments. All teaching staff are experienced and
well-qualified, and the staff pupil ratio is 1:7.
The Hellenic College of London year runs from September to early
July, with holidays at Christmas and Easter. Educational visits
to Greece and other European countries are planned every year.
The Hellenic College of London occupies a fine site in the heart
of Knightsbridge. Teaching facilities include fifteen classrooms,
three well-equipped science laboratories, two computer science laboratories,
music room and art studio. There is a second Nursery facility in
Golders Green (North London) for children aged 3-5.
Admission is based on previous school references, personal interviews
and, for pupils above the age of eight, entrance tests in English
and Mathematics.
