MIRAS School in Almaty

Miras International School was founded in September 1999 in Almaty and is a private, non-profit, K to 12 co-educational school providing a high quality international education leading to Kazakh and international qualifications, including the International Baccalaureate Diploma. It offers the IB Diploma, Middle Years, and Primary Years programmes, IGCSE certificates and the Kazakh National Diploma. MIS is at present the only school in Kazakhstan that has authorization for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

Students in pre-school, MIRAS School in Almaty kindergarten and primary school (grades 1-5) will receive instruction in three languages - English, Kazakh and Russian. The middle school program (also in Russian and English) embraces the interdependency of various disciplines and fosters an inquiry approach to a broad range of topics and areas of study. The IGCSE is offered in selected subjects and is also taught in English for grades 9 and 10.

The campus facilities at MIRAS School in Almaty include modern science and computer laboratories. Specialized facilities include areas designated for art, music, drama and dance. The school has a large greenhouse for the curriculum to focus on ecology and conservation of resources. A sports hall with enough space for a basketball court and outdoor tennis courts are also located near the school. A new theatre, swimming pool and science complex opened in September 2002.

A comprehensive modern library with 30 computers and adequate research stations is provided, along with computers, TV and video in all classrooms.
