The Modern English School, established in 1990 as a co-educational
day school, fosters an international outlook and caters for children
of all nationalities.
The nursery takes children from age 3. In the primary department
a full academic programme is followed based on the English National
Curriculum with slight modification to reflect the international
setting. French and Arabic are also offered at two levels, so meeting
the needs of individual pupils.
In years 7 and 8 at The Modern English School, Cairo, the curriculum
is designed to provide a balanced education in academic and creative
subjects, leading to an accelerated programme enabling students
to sit for eight IGCSE examinations at the end of year 10, or four
at the end of year 9 and a different four at the end of year 10
followed by 'A/S' and 'A' levels. Maths and English are compulsory.
From September 2000 an American track curriculum was also offered
leading to the American High School Diploma.
A Learning Development Unit caters for pupils with special educational
needs. Specialist PE, music, IT and French teachers coach the children
throughout the whole age range. In July 2000 the school relocated
to an imaginatively designed 33.500 m² campus with large faculty
suites, three multi-purpose halls, a large tiered theatre, primary
science laboratories, computer suites, split level learning media
centres, rehearsal rooms, large gymnasium, two swimming pools, varsity
size sports pitch and running track.
Extra curricular activities at The Modern English School, Cairo
play a significant part in the life of the school. There is an emphasis
on performing arts with large scale musical and drama productions
being presented regularly. Inter-house and inter-school sporting
matches are enjoyed and school teams travel abroad competing successfully
in ISAC activities. Pupils are encouraged to become involved in
local community work with several charity events being organized
annually. Educational visits linked with the curriculum are enjoyed
and regular Parent- Teacher Curricular Information Evenings are
presented. Transport is available to all areas of Cairo.
