School Summary
:
National, IB, UK curricula.
361 students, 4-19 yrs

The curriculum is essentially international. Beijing BISS International School is an authorized International Baccalaureate Organization PYP and Diploma Programme school and is currently implementing the MYP. Grades 9 and 10 students follow a syllabus for IGCSEs. All teachers are graduates in the field of education, design or language. Local graduates act as classroom assistants. Student entry into mainstream or ESOL groups is determined by admission placement tests for fluency in English. An Optimal Learning Centre (OLC) focuses on a range of student needs and an enrichment programme. Teacher student ratios are good, enabling maximum interactive opportunities within the classroom.

Chinese Studies is an integral part of the curriculum at Beijing BISS International School. Students in the Lower School from K1 to grade 6 have Chinese three times in a six-day cycle, and in the Upper School from grades 7-12 students study Chinese in native or learned language programmes.

The Beijing BISS International School four-storey main building has heated and air-conditioned classrooms, a library, multi-media reference room, music rooms, three science laboratories, art rooms, two networked computer rooms, multi-purpose rooms for PE and movement together with faculty and staff offices. A 330-square metre multi-purpose annexe with a seating capacity for 300, is used as a canteen, for assemblies, stage shows and social evenings. There is a clinic on campus with on-site doctor and nurse.

Externally there is a large play and games area including basketball courts, running track, volley ball court, tennis court and garden. A wide variety of extra-curricular activities is offered including sports, arts, music and games. An Activity Week each year offers travel and experiences in China to students.

The Beijing BISS International School calendar runs from August to June and the school closes for major vacations and Chinese National Holidays. The school day is from 08:30 until 15:00.
