INTRODUCTION
The British School of Nanjing (or "BSN" for short) is a British Curriculum international school serving the expatriate community in Nanjing for children aged 2 to 11 years (Pre-Nursery to Year 6). The school has 90 students from 17 nationalities and six continents. From 2009 BSN is expanding to include middle school grade levels.

Located in Jiangning District, the British School of Nanjing is 25 minutes from the Xinjiekou city centre and close to many villa compounds.  Situated on the banks of Baijia Lake, the school is in a beautiful, safe and tranquil learning environment.

BSN is governed by the British Schools Group, a non-profit organisation that aims to promote quality British-style education world-wide, and locally, among its network of schools in Beijing, Guangzhou, Moscow, and Kuala Lumpur. BSN is a member of The East Asian Association of British International Schools (EAABIS), and is registered with the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority in the UK (ISN: 1880018).

CURRICULUM
The British School of Nanjing follows the English National Curriculum as developed by the British Government. It is a standardised and internationally recognized programme, allowing students the opportunity to transfer to most education systems around the world with ease.

All children are taught with children of the same age in a differenciated and individual-focused programme allowing students to work at their ability level, encouraging outstanding performance. Subjects include all core and non-core subjects in-line with international UK standards.

STAFF
The school recruits class teachers with outstanding professional credentials from the UK. On average, BSN teachers have more than 10 years relevant experience delivering the British National Curriculum.

Each class teacher is supported by a teaching assistant, and in primary year levels the assistants are all native English speakers.

The school has a teacher-student ratio of approximately 1:4, which insures every student receives individual attention.

FACILITIES
With lakeside views and a quiet environment, the school is ideally located for learning. Facilities include library, music room, ICT (computer) lab, multi-purpose hall, football pitch, basketball court, neighbouring indoor swimming pool and tennis courts.

Every classroom contains state of the art teaching equipment including modern interactive whiteboard teaching technologies.

SCHOOL YEAR AND SCHOOL DAY
The school year runs from August til June with 190 schooling days. There are 3 terms per year with long breaks over Christmas/New Year, Chinese New Year, and Summer Holidays. The school day begins at 8.15am and finishes at 3.30 with after school activities running until 4.30pm twice per week.

EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
The school's prime motivation is to provide a nurturing environment where students can fulfill the full extent of their abilities. Our students are given access to elite international institutions, and are provided with every opportunity to develop the pastoral skills to take their place in society as confident, thoughtful and responsible citizens.
