The New International School of Thailand, a United Nations-related school was opened in August 1992 and is located near Bangkok's principal diplomatic, residential and shopping areas. The licence for the school is held by the Foundation for International Education, a Bangkok-based non-profit Trust. The school is approved by the Thai Ministry of Education. The school was accredited by ECIS and NEAS&C in 1998.

The New International School of Thailand's curriculum is truly international. Within the Elementary school, programmes are built around the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate. The Secondary School introduced the Middle Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate Organisation in August 1997, whilst maintaining a selected IGCSE programme. The IB Diploma is the basis of study for the final two years. NIST is a foundation member of ISA's International Education System Pilot Project. Other curricular features are LOTE (Languages Other Than English) offering nine languages, a comprehensive Thai Studies programme, Global Education programmes, and many links with host country communities.

The teaching faculty brings professional expertise from all over the world, representing 22 different nationalities. The student body represents many cultures, with 65% from Asia. Most students are likely to enter higher education in North America, the UK or Australia. Many are long-term residents of Bangkok, many others are 'Global Nomads'.

The school year runs from early August to mid-June. Daily hours are 07:30 to 14:30 (less for Kindergarten). Musical, sporting, artistic, social service and other activities are offered after school.

The New International School of Thailand school campus includes 85 classrooms, drama studios and art rooms. There is a school-wide network of over 400 PC-based computers. A major campus development on site commenced in 2001, with a sports complex comprising three air-conditioned gymnasia, swimming pool, tennis courts, weight room, aerobics room etc. A state-of-the-art Early Years Complex with pool was also opened in early 2003. A new multi-storey canteen and major refurnishment of all rooms is scheduled for completion in the next year.

Admission depends on tests and previous school records, with nationality quotas being utilized to ensure a broad international balance of students.
