Kültür Koleji was founded in September 1960 in Istanbul
by Mr Fahamettin Akingüc.
The Kültür Koleji school is governed by the legislation
set out by the Turkish Ministry of Education which also accredits
the school. The school is co-educational and enolls students from
nursery through university level, including a separate science high
school. The total number of students is 1,85O and they are served
by three locations in a very modern area on the European side of
Istanbul. Facilities include a theater (equipped for simultaneous
translation) seating 450, an Olympic-size gymnasium, cafeterias
and canteens, science laboratories, music, art and video rooms.
The Kültür Koleji school offers a bilingual college preparatory
education to students aged 7 to 18, Students are admitted to Kültur
High School through a highly competitive examination administered
by the Ministry of Education.
Students in the primary school at Kültür Koleji are exposed
to English at the age of four and continue studying an intensive
English program throughout primary and secondary years.
The Kültür Koleji school is primarily staffed by Turkish
nationals but also employs a staff of native-English-speaking nationals
from the UK, Ireland, Canada, the US and Australia. A number of
advisers from institutions of higher education provide additional
expertise on developments in education and technology, to ensure
that the school remains current in these vital areas. In conjunction
with this, the Kültür Koleji school maintains a research
and development centre to improve educational services. Its main
activities include staff development, in-service training and orientation
programs. It also carries out various parent and community-based
surveys and opinion polls to obtain information useful in preparing
programs and activities.
