Dubai English Speaking School

Dubai English Speaking School is the oldest primary school in Dubai and was first established in 1963 to provide education for the children of British expatriates working and living there. In 1969 the late ruler, H.H. Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, granted a charter for establishing Dubai English Speaking School in its present location.

The Dubai English Speaking School is operated as a non-profit making organisation overseen by an elected Board of Governors. It caters for 680 children between the ages of four and eleven, and closely follows the English National Curriculum, enabling children to transfer to secondary schools in Dubai or in the UK.

All United Kingdom government national tests relevant for the 4 - 11 primary school age are undertaken by the pupils and the results gained to date match the best schools both in the UK state and private sector as well as schools internationally.

The very experienced teaching staff at Dubai English Speaking School are fully qualified. Regular in-service training is undertaken by all staff so that the school ensures that it uses current methodology and practice. Educational consultants are involved on a regular basis with the school to ensure we are effective and efficient in our learning opportunities for the children. A very succesful full school OFSTED Review was carried out in March 2002 by a team of inspectors from the UK.

The Dubai English Speaking School has been virtually rebuilt over the last four years and children and teachers work in modern fully air-conditioned classrooms equipped with the latest teaching resources. There are specialist teaching staff for Arabic, ICT, Islamic Studies, French, music, literacy & mathematics development and PE. who all teach in specialist rooms.

Other facilities at Dubai English Speaking School include a newly created and state of the art ICT Suite, a Design Technology/Science room, a library, and a gymnasium. Outdoor facilities include a central play area, a grass playing field, tennis courts, netball courts and a 25-metre swimming pool.
